I took this series of images while visiting the Portabello Road weekend market in London. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and there were many people shopping at the variety of stalls and fascinating shops along the street. I was inspired to capture the fun, invigorating energy of the place and the people there. My Holga film camera allowed me to shoot medium format film and double expose each frame. If you look closely, you can see that almost every frame has a vertical and a horizontal image within it. For example, the upper left image titled, “Baby in the Cabbages,” has the vertical image of a baby in a carriage on the sidewalk and the horizontal image of the vegetable market. Notice the man riding his bicycle through the mirror ball at the center of the piece. The mirror ball was inside a shop window. I shot that first and then turned, rewound my film, and shot the biker on top of it. These images have not been digitally manipulated. Enjoy finding all there is to see! Janis Hefley
